Welcome to the fourth literary giveaway blog hop hosted by Judith at Leeswammes where there are a whole buncg of blogs giving away books! Hurrah! The last ones were a great success with lots of blogs joining in the fun and this year there are even more (make sure you pop over to see who else is giving lovely books away). What better way to start the weekend than to have a little mosey at all those lovely books being given away and trying to win some (or all) of them! Good luck!

 

The Rules

Please pick ONE of the following books and tell me why you would like to read that one in the comments box below. The winner will be picked by random.org on 22nd February (at 8am GMT – sorry I have to finish in the morning but I am going on holiday that day so I won’t be around to pick later on). This giveaway is open internationally and I will send you a brand shiny new copy from either Amazon or The Book Depository.

I have selected three books that I have really enjoyed in recent months and hope you will too. This time I’m going with the classics:

 

Book #1

The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy

  2. The only one of these I haven’t already read and loved is THE MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE – though one of my bookshop customers told me last week that I should get on and try some Hardy! So it’d have to be that one.

  3. Oh my, oh my…. free books!!! It’s all too exciting! The one I would pick from your Classics list would be The Mayor of Casterbridge as it’s one of Thomas Hardy’s that I haven’t read and your review of it really made me keen to give it a go (I love Far from the Maddening Crowd so hoping to lvoe this one as much too.)

  5. I also choose North and South. I have been curious about this book for a while and would love to read it. And I’m not reading enough classics at the moment so it would be a good way to get started again.

  9. I choose Little Women, because a friend of mine recommended it and I haven’t read it yet, because of lack of time. I borrowed it from the library and I loved the beginning, but now I want to know what’s going to happen next!
    I also want to read more older literature, so this one would be perfect!

  19. I heard a lot about Elisabeth Gaskel but I never read one of her books. I would love to win North & South because I am really curious if she really is as good as many people say.
    I loved Little Women when I first read it. I was around 14 at this time and I so wanted to change my name to Jo right at that moment. Fortunately I am now happy with my own name.

  25. If I were lucky enough to win, I’d choose the Thomas Hardy book as I’ve always felt as if I should give him a try but have never got round to it. Winning the giveaway would make me feel morally obliged to read it! Pathetic reasoning I know but, there we go!

  33. I’ve had North and South on my “to be read” shelf for ages now, and it would be wonderful to have a “keeper” copy of the book. I’ve heard so many good things about Elizabeth Gaskell that it’s about time I read something of hers. I’m a huge Thomas Hardy fan, but I’ve read The Mayor of Casterbridge several times (amazing book) and I’ve read Little Women (it’s pretty much obligatory since I live down the road from the Little Women’s home! :)]

    It’s the only book I am not familiar with, and reading your review has definitely intrigued me. A guy that auctions away his family in a drunk stupor? count me in! And honestly, the cover looked the most intriguing (yes, I do judge books by their covers, shame on me).

  54. Read the first two in school. I liked Little Women then and on re-reading it recently loved it again. The Mayor of Casterbridge was slow going for me then., I have not read it again. North and South was read recently. I would say so so!

I would like to read Little Women as I haven’t actually read the book but can remember many comforting nights of watching the movie, snuggled up with hot chocolate during my formative years.
