Wish I was there…
Day two of my 40 day book challenge and you have no idea how badly I wanted to go to this school when I was a little girl……I say little girl, but I have actually read this series about once every 5 or so years since then and I STILL want to go! How badly I wanted to roll up to the front of the huge cliff-side building in my father’s roller, kiss goodbye to my sweet-smelling mother and run off to meet my friends for terms filled with lacrosse games, high teas, midnight feasts on the beach with lashings and lashings of ginger beer and of course playing hilarious pranks on the French mistress while evenings would be spent in the common room darning my own socks while discussing who would play what in the christmas pantomime. Oh joy! What I’d give….

I cannot actually think of a novel with a setting I might want to live in, if just for one day maybe in one of Jane Austen’s novels 🙂 I read way too much fantasy and in those worlds there is always one thing or another that would scare me sensless if I’d been there 😉

One of my friends loved these books as a kid and, although I read and loved the fantasy books that she wrote – The Faraway Tree and the Wishing Chair series – I never read these. It’s good to know you still enjoy them as an adult – maybe I should read them!
I haven’t decided which book I want to live in yet – I didn’t get chance to write my post last night so will be doing it when I get home 🙂

I loved the Faraway Tree and Wishing Chair too, Kirsty. I can remember my dad reading them to me when I was really little and wishing I could go on these adventures with the children. Brilliant!

I loved the Faraway Tree and The Wishing Chair, I still have my hardback Wishing Chair book and I love to look at it. Annoyingly, several years ago I chucked out my original Faraway Tree book,it was the original version before the pc brigade got hold of it (I hate them) I just don’t recall Malory Towers, but I can see the appeal.
I think I’d have to go with Harry Potter though, to live in that world would be amazing, I’d love to read those quirky newspapers where everything moves 😉

I managed to get a copy of one of the original collections of the Faraway Tree books last year and it’s prior to the attack of the PC brigade! There’s no way I’ll be letting go of it now!
I think mine is probably going to be Harry Potter too… I love anything magical!

I think I could live in any book from Blyton’s Malory Towers series, they are my childhood favs. I think I would like to live in an Harry Potter novel as well.

I never read the Mallory Towers books although I really wanted to as a child. Instead, I had the Faraway Tree series which I LOVED. Although a bit scary, I also really loved Joan Aiken’s The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and wished I could live in one of those gothic piles (and I still do. I don’t think I’ve actually grown up…)

I have always, since I was in Gr. 3 and the teacher I had a major crush on took us to the cemetery next door to the school and read us The Hobbit under a giant Ent, wanted to live in the Shire. And travel Middle Earth, too. This is why I want to live in north England now, because it makes me think of the Shire and Middle Earth.

Since my blog is not strictly about books, I’ve decided to make it a weekly rather than daily challenge and I’ve finally written my second blog! I chose The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis because of the magic, adventure and freedom of Narnia. Although I’m by no means a Christian I can appreciate the idea of a refuge from reality and the opportunity to fight the good fight. The talking animals were also a selling point!
