Day 1 – A favourite book in 2011 (so far)

A favourite book this year

It’s the first day of my 40 day book challenge and first up is a favourite book this year so far.

It’s always really difficult to pick just one book, especially as I read from different genres and my reading tends to ebb and flow depending on my moods.

Anyway, I have gone for Santa Montefiore’s The house by The Sea just because I read it at the exact right time – it wrapped round me like a huge snuggly blanket and I smiled from start to finish. I found it the perfect summer read and just what I needed. If you’re looking for a magical and comforting book to escape with then look no further.

What’s your favourite book of 2001 so far?

  1. Hiya Boof 🙂

I need to find out more about your favorite book 🙂 Do you think it would work just as well on a cold autumn night with a cup of steaming hot tea and a blanket?

I find it hard to choose just one. I’d say Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion and Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, the latter isn’t due for release until late September.

  2. I remember you raving about this book when you did your review. Based on that, I almost bought it for my mother recently (but decided on a different book in the end).

Ok, ok, I WILL open my Word document and add this to my wishlist. Sigh. No, actually, thanks! It’s nice when good books are being pointed out. I have read so many gems (and a few disappointments) based on other people’s recommendation.

But this is just Day1! What else have you got in store? 🙂

  3. My favourite book this year…..It’s hard to nail a book down, but for me, one that sticks out and I still think about is The Book of Negroes. I was wrapped up in this and in all the years I’ve been reading, this was the first book that bought actual tears to my eyes.

I’ll look out for your favourite at the library 😉

  4. I’ve been wondering about Santa Montefiore for a while as I’ve seen her books around in the bookshops and library. I’ll keep her in mind. It’s so hard to pick a favourite book since I’ve read so many this year. But I have to say I was mightily impressed with Nicole Krauss’ Great House. Of and of course all the Malazan books by Steven Erikson (I’ve read 8/10 this year and have 2 vols left!)

  5. It is amazing when it is just the perfect time for a book, that for me would be Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James also Night Road by Kristin Hannah, I think I loved it more because of when I read it.

I look forward to 40 days of counting down

  6. Added that to my TBR list… I am playing along on my blog, too, as well as re-living the 40 things I tried to accomplish before my 40th!

I chose Maeve Binchy’s book “Minding Frankie” for my favorite of 2011 so far. Looking at goodreads, there were few five stars so far – all the Harry Potter’s (I listened to them all on audio this year), two Binchy’s, and “The Girl Who Fell from the Sky.” Good stuff.

  7. This looks like the kind of book I could lose myself in. I read a book earlier this year called The Tapestry of Love by Rosy Thornton (which came a close second to Room – my favourite of 2011 so far) and that was similar – foreign country, different way of life, perfect escapism!

  8. I have not read this book. My favorite book that I have read so far this year was Bleak House by Charles Dickens. It took me forever to get through it but in the end it is a wonderful and quirky story.
